Are you going to be a Caregiver?

    This is about putting your affairs in order
          before you become a Caregiver.       

        We are sent to school or training of some kind to learn how to handle our jobs. So where do you go to learn how to put "your" affairs in order? No where, that's where! The information I'm writing is blunt, not intended to insult anyone, but to aggravate us into action. Your situation is unique. No two will ever be the same. This information is a base from which both of you can build. What you need to remember is that the caregivers may have to make more extensive planning than the care receiver.

     Professional caregivers and those who are involved receive checks for their services, the private caregiver does not, nor do they receive help starting themselves back up. We need a leveler playing field and clearer and more concise information (no small print).

As non-professionals, we'll have to do this on our own! And we can.

Vermont has or had a pilot program by which state benefits were to be paid to family caregivers. I haven't heard anything about it lately, but it sounds like an equitable thing for the state to do, given the terrible financial burden caregiving puts on some families.
